Sunak Scraps HS2 Leg – saying he knows what ‘North really Needs’

The cancellation of the West Midlands to Manchester leg of HS2 has been the worst kept secret in politics.
But the Prime Minister assured the Tory Conference he knew ‘what the North really needs’ instead – namely a host of other transport projects there and across the Midlands.
Speculation about the decision has dominated the Conservative party conference in Manchester. This morning Rishi Sunak summoned his Cabinet to an emergency meeting to sign off the plans, before announcing them in his closing speech.
